It’s Valentine’s Day. And whether you acknowledge it or not, LOVE is in the air and chocolate is, well, EVERYWHERE.
I was ecstatic when I woke up this morning to the sweetest surprise, a Valentine’s day green smoothie recipe in my inbox from the Rawkstars, just what I needed to indulge without the guilt. So I thought I’d share it with all my other green smoothie enthusiasts and not yet enthusiasts. This one is sure to convert the unconverted! The recipe below is enough to fill two wine glasses (yes put those goblets to use), but admittedly one mouth. So you may want to double up if you plan to share it with a special someone. It calls for cocoa powder (healthiest option), but I’m sure you can find good substitutes. I used some Jamaican hot cocoa mix because that was what I had at hand. This is guaranteed to please and to ward off those artificial chocolate treats!
Chocolate Covered Cherry
1 cups spinach, fresh
1 cups almond milk, unsweetened (can use other types of ‘milk’ too)
1 cups cherries, pitted (frozen is recommended though I used fresh)
1 banana (I used frozen bananas)
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 tablespoons cacao powder
Blend spinach and almond milk until smooth. Next add the remaining fruits and blend again.
* Use at least one frozen fruit to make the green smoothie cold.
For a lovely Valentine’s day presentation, pour it into a red wine glass and add a fresh cherry on top. Share with a loved one (or not). Drink immediately since I find the banana starts to thicken up when you leave it to sit too long. Admittedly, I had both glasses to myself.
If my significant other were a green smoothie, I’d want him to be this one. #vdayconfessions. What smoothie would your s.o. be?
With love, Green Smoothie
